  • Lie face down and ask a family member to apply a cold compress directly on the affected area to reduce pain.
  • Avoid normal toilet paper. Use moistened-toilet paper or baby wipes after a bowel movement.
  • Clean up the area with warm water many times in a day.
  • Never sit of stand for long hours. Keep changing your position if you’ve to stand or sit for a long period of time.
  • Add more fiber in your diet. Eat fresh vegetables, whole grains and beans daily. Fiber eliminates the constipation problem and makes stools, which are easier to pass.
  • Drink more water, at least 8 glasses a day.
  • Perform regular exercises. Moderate exercise such as walking boosts your digestion and makes the movement of the bowl much easier.
  • Take over-the-counter hemorrhoid medications for a short period of time. Medicines that contain corticosteroids are excellent in reducing the pain.

Hemorrhoids are annoying, but normally not dangerous. Be careful about your body and avoid activities that cause pressure on the veins in the anal canal or rectal area. It also occurs due to pregnancy, obesity and straining during a bowl movement. Maintain a healthy weight and never sit on the toilet for long hours.
