What Makes a Sexual Intercourse So Painful?


There is a number of conditions are responsible to cause pain or discomfort during the sexual intercourse. Some of the conditions are as follows:

Vaginal Infection:

There are some vaginal infections that don’t cause any symptoms but makes an intercourse painful. Some of such infections are vaginal yeast infection and trichomoniasis. However, during sex, the rubbing motion of the penis against a vagina and genitalia cause vaginal infection symptoms such as stinging, burning, etc.

Vaginal Irritation:

There are some products that have irritants as an ingredient that leads to pain during the sexual intercourse. Such products include:

• Contraceptive cream, lotion, jelly or foam
• Allergic to condoms, diaphragms
• Deodorant spray for vagina
• Scented tampons
• Excessive vaginal douching

Vaginal Dryness:

Dryness is the most common reason that makes sexual intercourse painful. Lack of lubrication in Vagina can be caused by many reasons such as:

• You try to achieve vaginal penetration before sufficient stimulation has occurred that allow normal vaginal lubrication.

• You are nervous or tense during the sexual intercourse

• Using a condom without any additional vaginal lubricant

• Hormonal imbalance during menopause, the years preceding menopause or after childbirth

Vaginal Tightness:

It happens when you feel tense, or you are not fully relaxed when vaginal penetration occurs. Difficulty in penetrating a tight vagina can also be happened even when lack of lubrication is not a reason. The vaginal penetration can cause pain during the first few times due to a hymen.

Apart from this, a severe condition called vaginismus is also responsible for vaginal tightness. A woman suffering from vaginismus may experience strong muscle spasms during the sexual intercourse.

Clitoris pain:

Clitoris is the most sensitive art of female genitalia. Women experience extreme pleasure when touching or rubbing the clitoris, but some may experience unbearable pain if such activity is done. The main reasons of clitoris pain are poor hygiene, accumulation of vaginal secretion under the clitoris hood, etc.

Pain or discomfort doesn’t occur during normal sexual intercourse. If you experience any kind of pain during sex, inform your partner because he has no other way of knowing that you’re not comfortable. Consult your doctor to diagnose and treat the underlying cause.
